Hold Me Jesus

One of my favorite singer/song writers of all time is Rich Mullins. Everyone knows him for “Awesome God” & “Step by Step” but he has an amazing catalog of work that rocks my world every time I hear it.

His songs are a lot like the Psalms for me. When we want comfort or encouragement or we are feeling confused we open our Bibles to the Psalms and hunt around. Well for me musically speaking, Rich’s tunes are my “Psalms” they express what I can’t find the words for, they kick my butt, they remind me of the greatness & faithfulness of God, just amazing stuff. If you have never given his stuff a listen you need to hit the iTunes store.

Rich went home to be with the Lord back in 97, but his music and message live on. Here is one song that has been in my head and heart for this season of my life:

Hold Me Jesus

Well, sometimes my life just don’t make sense at all
When the mountains look so big and my faith just seems so small

CHORUS:
So hold me Jesus, ’cause I’m shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won’t You be my Prince of Peace

And I wake up in the night and feel the dark
It’s so hot inside my soul
I swear there must be blisters on my heart

CHORUS

Surrender don’t come natural to me
I’d rather fight You for something I don’t really want
Than to take what You give that I need
And I’ve beat my head against so many walls
Now I’m falling down, I’m falling on my knees

And this Salvation Army band is playing this hymn
And Your grace rings out so deep It makes my resistance seem so thin

CHORUS

You have been King of my glory Won’t You be my Prince of Peace

What tunes are speaking to you right now?
