I’m Finished With PGTC

By Clif On January 23rd, 2008 in Culture, Favorite Blogs /

WOW!

I have finished my reread and my review and just sent it off and all I can say is WOW! Well I can say more then that, Tim does an amazing job in this book. It is honest and insightful and it is going to really upset some people, but it is going to help so many more. I repeat what I said already, this is one of the most important books to be written in recent years. Those that are serious about impacting their communities will get so much out of this book. It is much more then mere theory, it contains practical steps that can be taken, and is full of examples of churches like Granger that are getting it done. Tim speaks clearly out of the pages of Scripture and challenges us all to do what Jesus did, connect and communicate.

I am blessed and blown away to have had this opportunity and cannot wait until you all have the chance to read this book and we can discuss it. I know it will be a starting point for some very important conversations and a catalyst for some important changes. Please pray for Tim as he considers all the reviews and make the final changes to the book and keep your ears open for a release date. www.leadingsmart.com

I have breezed through the book and I am 25% of the way through my reread and review of Tim Stevens’ book Pop Goes The Church and it is amazing. Tim puts into words thing that have been brewing in my soul for years. Those of you that know me well know how passionate I am about leveraging culture and speaking in terms that NORMAL people can understand. Well I stand by my early assessment of this book, Pop Goes The Church is ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT books written in recent years. Any church leader that is serious about reaching people for Jesus will want to read, chew on, digest, and reread this book. Tim doesn’t pull any punches, this is a very refreshing and honest look at the state of affairs. When this bad boy hits the shelves it will spark a lot of very important discussions and I believe it will help the church take a step forward. Tim Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, my Inbox finally informed me that the Eagle had landed, and she is a beauty!

I got my copy of Pop Goes the Church and jumped right in. So far it is awesome! Tim puts into word many of the frustration that I myself have felt and continue to feel regarding the present state of many of our churches. You are going to love this book.

All Geeked Up

By Clif On January 15th, 2008 in Culture, Favorite Blogs /

Tim Stevens, the Executive Pastor for Granger Community Church and co-author of the Simply Strategic books you see in the side column is writing a new book Pop Goes The Church, dealing with the church and engaging the culture. I think this going to be an extremely important book for the church and any leader serious about communicating the truth of God’s Word in a relevant way.

Well Tim asked for 10 leader to offer their time to read the manuscript and offer their input, there were about 100 different leaders that offered and I was chosen to be one of the ones to review the book. I AM ALL GEEKED UP ABOUT THIS!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to read it. Did I mention that I am all geeked up about being able to start reading this book TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Tim for letting a big guy with a bald head be among the number of reviewers. Woo Hoo! Yeah still pretty excited about this.

Buckhead Kicks Butt

By Clif On January 10th, 2008 in Church Life, Favorite Blogs, Music /

There are a few churches out there that I wish I could attend.  They have amazing pastors, amazing creative teams, and amazing volunteers that get it done week in and week out.  Buckhead got it done again, the opening for the Illusions series was killer.  Los posted the video on his blog and here is the link.   They really take seriously the vision of connecting with the unchurched.  Siliva in church, NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Online Quiet Time

By Clif On January 3rd, 2008 in Resources, Tech /

A few months back a great tool was launched by the creative team at Lifechurch, YouVersion. It is an online interactive Bible. YouVersion has multiple translations available as well as a journal for you to record your notes as you go. You can also highlight and star passages. This is an awesome tool for me because as many of you know I WRITE IN MY BIBLE, A LOT, so much so that I have to get new Bibles every other year. So this year I am using YouVersion for my personal daily Bible reading, I am also using their One Year Bible plan. So I encourage you to log on and check it out. Set up a free user account and experience God’s Word in a whole new way.
