That Was Fun

By Clif On November 29th, 2007 in Church Life, Ministry /

This past Sunday I got the chance to lead worship. I haven’t done it in about 6 months, and man it was fun. It just so happened that I was sick, so my voice was shot and I had a fever, but what a blast. My voice was very 90’s grudge rock and moved into Cookie Monster by the end of the set. But my team killed it and the presence of God was there.

I forgot how much fun it can be to really go for it with a group of friends, to really sing and play your hearts out to the King of Kings. Yeah that was fun, I will have to do it again soon.

Must Read Blogs

By Clif On November 19th, 2007 in Favorite Blogs, Ministry, Resources /

I personally use iGoogle for RSS subscriptions and it seems that I am adding new blogs ever other day, but ever once in a while you strike real gold.  Two blogs that have consistently offered killer content are Church Relevance & Think Simple, Be Decisive.  These are worth subscribing to, they post new content a few times a week and it is always useful.  I give them both high marks and encourage you to check them out.  Good Stuff, Must Read, did I mention that you should subscribe to these two…Seriously.

What Ever Happened To Thanksgiving?

By Clif On November 19th, 2007 in Holidays /

A few weeks ago I drove by a house and they were taking down their Halloween decorations and putting up their Christmas ones.  This got me thinking “What ever happened to Thanksgiving?”  It seems like it has been erased from the calendar in a lot of ways, I hear a lot about Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year, the count down to Christmas begins; but what ever happened to Thanksgiving?  Have we become so consumer driven that we forget to stop and be grateful?  Have you  noticed this too, or is it just me?  What are you thankful for?

Church Planters, If You Had It To Do All Over…

By Clif On November 12th, 2007 in Church Life, Church Planting /

Hindsight is 20/20, we all have played Monday morning Quarterback, & if we could do it all over again we would always do things differently. When it comes to ministry this is very true, but I want to hear from church planters, if you had it to do all over again:

What would you do differently?

What would you do the same?

What were your biggest successes early on?

What were your biggest mistakes?

Who in ministry has influenced you the most?

What resources have had the greatest impact?

Calling all church planters, this inquiring mind wants to know.

Awesome Resource

By Clif On November 8th, 2007 in Growth, Leadership, Resources /

If you are anything like me you love books. I love them, have to buy them and then try to get through them all. My office is loaded with them, in fact most people make the comment “Wow, you have a lot of books” whenever they walk in for the first time. I think I have a problem, I have 6-8 books going at any one time, it is really sad. I can’t walk into Barnes and Noble and not buy a book. This is very ironic because I never used to read, and now I can’t stop myself.

Anyway my problem is to many books not enough time. And what happen a lot times is I buy a book that looks like it will contain tons of great info only to find it full of fluff. Well I came across an amazing resource, www.summary.com . For $120 a year they will send you 30 book summaries in audio and print formats. The books are more on the business side, so if you want to read books on leadership, management, marketing, etc this will save you time and money. Each audio summary is about 20 minutes and can be downloaded as an MP3. Plus you get access to previous summaries that you can pick up for a few bucks.

I love this service, some of this years titles are John Maxwell’s 360 Leader; Good to Great, Purple Cow, The Art of The Start. So If you want to save time and money check it out. As a very satisfied customer I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this service.

They have a free sample available, The 8th Habit by Covey, so check it out and see if it works for you. Let me know if you try it and like it.
